The first 17 years

Proteus founders Erika Andersen and Marty Seldman met as executives in a well-respected training company. We discovered a shared desire to work with clients in a more strategic, systemic way--to focus on an organization's core goals and offer a variety of approaches for achieving them.

To fulfill that vision, Erika, Marty and Scott Cronin formed Proteus International, Inc., in 1990. From the beginning, we worked collaboratively with clients to help them articulate and achieve their hoped-for-future. We started by offering learning consultation and design, vision and strategy facilitation, executive coaching and management skills development. Within the first 2 years Proteus clients included PepsiCo, Taco Bell, and MTV Networks.

Over the next 8 years we focused on building our capacity and serving a broader range of industries. During this period Marty left Proteus to pursue a private coaching practice. We also recruited Anne Labrador to support our growing business on an administrative level.

As existing client relationships deepened, and new clients began working with us, we looked for additional staff to offer Proteus approaches and services. In 1998 we brought Cindy Franklin into the company as a senior consultant. Jeff Mitchell joined Proteus as a partner and President in 2000, bringing valuable expertise in business-building, culture change and custom learning design.

Over the past few years, Kate Payne, Cindy Swensen, Ken Kesslin and Jennifer Sherman have joined us as senior consultants.

We're proud to be practicing what we preach: as we help our clients move toward their hoped-for-future, we are doing the same for ourselves.
