Supporting a CEO-to-be

We began coaching one Proteus client while he was leading his company's sales organization. When the president of the company left, our client decided to throw his hat into the ring as a candidate for the job.

He asked for our support. First, we helped him pinpoint and further develop skills and qualities that would show him as a leader while still in his current job. For example, he focused on continuing to articulate clear vision and goals for the sales organization during this interim period, and on working more closely with other senior managers to provide short-term stability.

Then we helped him get clearer about how he was viewed by his company's board of directors and how he could legitimately position himself to be seen by them as a strong candidate. For example, while they saw him primarily as a "sales guy," he had spent many years managing and leading sales organizations. He had developed the skills needed to run the company effectively, and the board needed to know that.

We're happy to note that he got the job and is leading his company's continued growth and innovation.
